This course is suitable for the following:
For doctors, who have passed the OET or IELTS exam.
Or, are working towards the OET exam.
Preparation for the UK clinical environment.
Improving clinical communcation skills with English speaking patients.
Improving general and medical English.
This course is aimed to increase your confidence, and communication skills, build on, and stimulate existing knowledge of medical English, in a variety of clinical situations typically encountered in practice, here are just a few that will be covered on the day:
- Explaining diagnosis to the patient
- Discussing treatment options and investigations
- Explaining test results
- Breaking bad news
- Ward Rounds
- Communicating with family members
- Taking a patient’s history
- Examining a patient
- Dealing with and supporting patients with mental health
- Common presenting conditions
- British patients expectations of medical staff
- Common scenarios
The course focuses on areas of practice where you will need strong communication skills. You will have the opportunity to learn language survival tips and strategies, as well learn the ward culture in the UK clinical environment, and essential clinical tasks vital for the safe and smooth running of acute medical and surgical environments, to help you successfully and safely through the first few months in practice.
The day will end with a relaxing yoga session, and guided meditation.
Aim: Improve confidence, increase medical and general English, critical thinking skills, preparation for practice.
